Rivers

Historic :

1993 : a first study of the river beds of the Aire and Drize

1995 : setting up of the river contract of the rivers between Arve and Rhone

1997 : signature of the protocol of the cross border agreement to revitalise the rivers.

2003 : Bernard Gaud, President of the Community (CCG) and Robert Cramer, member of the Council of state for the Department of Interior, Agriculture and Environment of the Canton of Geneva, as well as all partners signed the cross border river contract between Arve and Rhone.

The aim of the contract is to put in place actions of global revitalisation of the ecosystem of the nine rivers of the drainage basin. This will profit a population on both sides of the border in an area of about 160 km² (62 square miles).

Today :

The same contract has three types of action which correspond to the main observations made on the rivers: like various sorts of pollution, the risks of inundation and the maintenance of the banks.

This program engages 50 million Euros during 7 years for hundreds of actions.
