The concept touches a large number of dimensions, arising
from a global vision connected with a development adapted to the
whole region. To better understand you have to look into each
sphere :
|
The concept "Porte
sud de Genève" is riche of a number of forces:
- Positioned as a link
between the near centre of Geneva (town of international
notoriety) and the network of French Alps region.
- The opportunity for
Geneva to have the advantage of a direct
access to the European Union.
- An excellent
accessibility
on roads and highways.
- The potentialities of
the development of the Site of Archamps, its
university and research centre,
in complementary to the Site
of Cervonnex offers
even more development possibilities.
- A territory in the
hart of "Grands projets"
(Geneva/Paris high speed train through Haut-Bugey, motorway
A41).
- Magnificent
natural assets and a typical environment of the Genevois:
dominated by the Salève and underlined by the Vuache,
this
landscape has been preserved
by reasonable policy continuing today by the SCOT
(in French) of the CCG.
The "Porte
Sud de Genève" represents also :
- A strong attraction
which
is translated into a sudden augmentation of the population.(a
clip)
- A
centre integrated in a territory which had taken charge of its
future
by establishing the first SCOT in the Haute Savoie and by the
decision to manage its environment (Environmental guideline for
the Salève, Contract of the Site of the Salève and
the Vuache) and especially to manage his water
through the cross-border river contract "between Arve and
Rhone".

Four strategic
visions are developed in the "Geneva's Southern Gateway"
(Porte Sud de Genève) project :
The
concept "Porte Sud de Genève" finds itself in
the centre of a 'great project' ("grand projet") for
cross-border development: the Franco-Vaud-Geneva
metropolitan area project.
(website in French and German) This implies :
To
share common life space and
promote a more equitable society, reinforce
the international vocation of the agglomeration
Franco-Vaud-Geneva, maintain
and develop the quality of
life in an attractive setting and develop
a governance at the scale of the agglomeration.
The project
"Porte Sud de Genève" is complementary
to the existing projects of the territory of the French-Geneva
region: " Rectangle d' Or" and " Etoile
d'Annemasse ".

A coherent
economic multi-site
development
The
Site
d'Archamps (Website in
French and English) and the years of its existence show on one
hand the attractiveness of this border region for international
companies (truly complementary with Geneva) and on the other hand
the feasibility of an ambitious operation on this territory (from
0 to now 180 companies and 1780 employees in over ten years.)
The
Site of Cervonnex
represents a reserve of construction land with a potential to
ether develop "grands projets" or economic activities
complementary to the site of Archamps.
It is important to
mention the other industrial zones on the territory to draw a
coherent and diversified offer of activities.
The
convention centre, a structure
adapted to organise
conferences and business
meetings. This centre participates to promoting the territory
with its economic and scientific resources and represents the
first part of an economic entity.

Implementation of the concept
"La Porte Sud de Genève"
The project
"La Porte Sud de Genève" gives a
new image to the territory of
St.-Julien-Neydens-Archamps-Bardonnex
and identifies the area as a strategic centre in the development
of the Geneva agglomeration. Thus it has its place among the
regional and national economic centres.
The management
committee of the "La Porte Sud de Genève", which
is constituted with French and Swiss Partners is co-ordinating
the different actions proposed by the cross border working
groups.
