A multi-mode transport hub

One should think of a multi-mode transport hub when planning the surroundings of the train station of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois with a redevelopment of the circulation and access to the town: an ambitious program of urbanism, a real exchange centre of Geneva's Southern Gateway, a place of convergence of multi mode-transport.

The improvement and prolongation of Geneva's public transport to the station of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois is in this context a constant preoccupation.

This vast program which is directly linked to the problem of housings and in which one has to include the direct connection between the 'Site d'Archamps' and Saint-Julien-en-Genevois, constitutes the base of the project "Porte Sud de Genève".

When thinking of ambitious urbanism one has to intensify public transport.

  • The adoption of a Local housing program (PLH) by the CCG and the elaboration of the development program of cross-border housing responds to a necessity to privilege a densification of constructions and adopt a more economic use of the construction ground.
  • Thus the importance of the urban centre of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois should be strengthened. Indeed the possible densification of the town centre should be overthought. The initiation of important construction operations in the perimeter of the 'Porte Sud de Genève' will reinforce the character of the urban project.

Directly linked to the economic development and to the need of housing is the problem of transport which is a determining factor.
